Channel Ident's are a way to keep the viewer with the channel they're currently on (or sister channels). With each channel's individual ident, it makes it clear for viewers to also remember what channel they're on and, just by the look of it, know what channel they're on.Commonalities in Channel Idents:
Channels Idents have their own unique styling towards them, for example, BBC 2 has the infamous "2." A frequent viewer of BBC 2 would know what channel they're on if they just saw the "2" and nothing else - that's what makes idents great.
A lot of Channel Idents have very common aspects to them. What I mean by this is that it has its own distinguished feel to it. Idents are particularly used as a 'wallpaper' so that the Continuity Announcer can keep the audience within the channel space as he (or in some cases she) may announce the upcoming shows on related channels and perhaps give a brief synopsis (and/or tense) of a programme. Channel Idents have specific Target Audience, for example: E4's target audience is mostly teenagers and young adults, their for they need to match their Channel Ident with the demographics that currently have. May it be creative, inspiring and aesthetically beautiful, they often have Idents that take the viewer by surprise and amusement.
2) Extend your blog post to comprehensively explain design the purposes of channel idents, use at least two idents to illustrate your points.
The purposes of channel idents are to get the viewer (audience) to hang on to the channel rather than to switch off, or change to a different channel. Channel Idents are have exquisite design to them and come in a variety of different styles and themes to engage more with the audience. Not only do Idents open a window for the Continuity Announcer, but it, as I mentioned above, mostly notifies the audience about upcoming programmes. In terms of Ident designs, they are mostly very creative as that attracts the viewer. Some Idents amuse the viewer thus making them want to stay with the channel. Below are three creative Idents.
